Book recommendations?? I need some beach reads.

Reading time is on the horizon....

I need some recommendations, folks. As you probably know, like many of you, I am all over the place and have time to read a few pages while I’m either waiting for something like a doctors appointment or sneaking it in in the restroom (I won’t lie). That’s the extent of my time for leisure reading on a daily basis - for the time being.

But I have a small, amazing window approaching.

This year is our 15th wedding anniversary and we decided to make a deal of it. We are going to an all-inclusive resort down in the land of sun and surf. And we’re going in two weeks.

It’s one of those cabanas on the beach where there aren’t really even walls - only curtains separating you from paradise. (I don’t want to think about what happens if there’s bad weather, but I’m just going to pretend that’s not going to happen.) There are no TVs. And it’s a small island. I assume there’s a town somewhere that you can go visit or things like hiking or snorkeling or some other such water sport, but that’s pretty much about it. They do have wireless, so I suppose we could stream something if we are completely desperate for some Modern Family or Arrested Development, but other than that, I’m going to have time to actually read. Like, potentially a whole book in one sitting.

There were days in distant times past, dear friends, when I would knock out two Nancy Drew books in one day. Those were glorious days. Now I can imagine it might take me close to six weeks in my current schedule, and that is a tragedy. But soon, in two short weeks, I will have time to read. And I fully intend to get through at least three full-length novels. I feel like that is setting my sights a little low, honestly, but it is an anniversary trip, so I can’t read all the time. I think three is a good target.

So this, my friends, is where you come in. What should I read?!?!? My To-Read list is beyond ridiculous. I have lost track of the series that I try follow. I got the new Janet Evanovich for Christmas, Hardcore Twenty-Four, but I’m pretty sure I haven’t read Twenty-Three or Twenty-Two, or maybe even Twenty-One. I do know that Kresley Cole’s Arcana series released a new book last week, The Dark Calling, which is definitely on the list. I’m even considering re-reading the whole series before that last book. And I’ve lost track of Meghan Ciana Doidge's Dowser series, I think, though I seem to believe I’m not more than one book behind. And then there's the Fever series.... Oy. I obviously need to do some research before I leave. I'd better get a move on.

But what else is out there, friends? Tell me what you would pack if you had five days on a tropical island with no TV and very little civilization. I would love to hear all of your thoughts. And then ultimately, at the end, I’ll have an even bigger list of To-Read books, which seriously is never a bad thing. Tell me what you think! I need time to get them before boarding the plane!
